Something Greater...

You know that feeling right after you watch porn, when you think "that felt pretty good, but there has to be something better"; what about the feeling the day after drinking too much, that says "that was fun, but that can't be all this life has for me"; even deeper what about the feeling you experience when you look into the mirror and think "how could anyone love me"? You familiar with any of these? Yea me too.

Jesus has so much to say to our hurting hearts when we experience these doubts, both for people who are in a relationship with Him, and for those who are not. Below are some things God has been placing on my heart, and compelling me to share.

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." - Galatians 5:1

God called us to something Greater, I am reminded of this every painful time I turn to pursue anything less than His Glory. Sometimes I search to find something that I already posses. How easily I get distracted and disoriented by the world around me, and in momentary lapses of reason I find myself pursuing lesser things in hopes of experiencing greater. I encounter the same truth every time the dust settles at the dead end of my ineffectual detour. The greatness I desire, lives within me, I need not search, I need only surrender and live. Why fight to maintain incompetent control of my life in hopes of winning when, I have already been deemed victorious in Him?

So back to those doubts we first discussed, I believe there are two types of hurting heart. The first, has been brought alive through salvation in Jesus Christ, and the other has not yet experienced and accepted that salvation. For those who are in Christ, and have these doubts, we are like someone frantically searching for a car key that is in our pocket. We can stop searching and instead realize and live the fact that we have the key. Jesus' sacrifice conquered death to gave us the key to victory and Greatness, we are not waiting on a move of God in our lives, we are the move of God in our lives. The second and equally loved heart is like someone trying to figure out how to start the car without the key, car battery, or gasoline in the tank.
Regardless of who you are, how you feel, or what you have done, Jesus Christ loves you more than my fingers could ever depict with a keyboard. You may not believe this love, but you must at least acknowledge that there is something within you telling you that you were made for or are alive for more than what you are currently experiencing. There is more.

Prayer for believers when experiencing these doubts: "Jesus, remind me of who I am in your Love, that you have won the war, and that I don't have to hurt anymore. Remind me that I need only rejoice and act in your victory! Remind me, that I do not have to settle for anything less than your Glory! Bring broken hearts alive through the life you have given me! Amen!"
